The Ion Hewn| Urban Adinkra | The War Horn
Introduction: The sound of Akoben is a battle cry or a call to arms. It is an ivory horn used by the Akan people in pre-colonial days to alert them of approaching danger or to summon them to work on a common endeavor.
Description: The War Horn is a cast medal replica of the Akoben Adinkra symbol. This particular symbol signifies voluntarism, action and readiness. Akoben has an opening on smaller end that is side blown to make a low, loud, earthly sound…audible to villagers even at a distanced.
Other Products:This medal was designed in union with The Blacksun Bloodmoon graphic novel series character St.Heresh Malachi. The Boutique Graven offers an Urban Adinkra medal for each of the thirteen main characters from the Blacksun Bloodmoon graphic novel series.
St.Heresh Malachi’s Dossier: St.Heresh Malachi, head of security and responsible for the safe transport of the thirteen and their intellectual property. A master carpenter, fabrication of what is to come is never the issue for St.Heresh. Maintaining balancing in the mist of creation and destruction however has caused Beast to become Sado-Masochistic. Peculiar, St.Heresh is most loved and least desired. St.Heresh is often in fellowship with Mekeda.
Facts about Adinkra: The Bowdich Adinkra Theory: Thomas E. Bowdich, author of Mission from Cape Coast to Ashantee was sent to Ghana by the British government from 1817-1819. Bowdich’s book includes a large drawing of The Odwira Festival which took place in 1817. In this drawing there are Akan men clothed in material with Adinkra symbols stamped on them. Some of this material can be found in the Museum of Mankind at The British Museum of London. British records verified that the cloth was collected from the Gold Coast area in 1817, a year before the Asante – Gyaman war, leaving room for doubt in the Ashante reports that the Adinkra was not originated until 1818.
